Do Twins Run in your Family??

And other questions I've been asked throughout my pregnancy...

My friend Lisa, who is a fellow twin mommy, told me when I was newly pregnant that people would ask a lot of questions once they found I was expecting twins. I wondered to myself at the time if it could really be any more than with a singleton pregnancy, because I just assumed that people are generally curious when you're pregnant...well she was right, I've had a TON more questions! Here are some questions people have asked me in a typical conversation:

Q: Do you know what you are having?
A: Yes, a boy and a girl.
Q: A boy AND a girl????
A: Yes.
Q: TWINS??
A: Yes...
Q: Do twins run in your family?
A: Yes, my grandmother was a twin
Q: So didn't you know you were rolling the dice...that you could get pregnant with TWINS???
A: Uhm, well, uh, well, I guess I really didn't think about it like that...but uh, maybe, yeah...

OR

Q: TWINS??
A: Yes
Q: Don't you already have THREE kids? (look of disapproval because I am one of those...the kind that already has too many kids)

OR:

Q: TWINS??
A: Yes
Q: Were you trying for twins?
A: Huh? Is that possible?

OR:

Q: Did you take fertility drugs?
Q: Are you DONE having kids?
Q: Did you know...any random fact about twins?
Q: How are you going to afford ALL those kids?
Q: How are you going to take care of ALL those kids?
Q: What are you going to do with ALL those kids?

And my very favorite question of them all...

Q: ARE YOU CRAZY?

And the conversation is usually summed up really nicely with a "Glad it's you and not me" and off we go on our seperate ways.

I can't wait for all the questions I'll get when I have all FIVE kids in the grocery store! That will be fun! :)

Now if I had seen you and just found out about the twins I would have said, "How VERY exciting!!!" I know God knew you needed a whole lot of youngins' round you to love on you!"
I love kids and I especially love babies! I would have had lots more if Robin would have been willing :(
So happy for you Abby! I think you are going to do great with 5 (or more!) !! Just think of all the fun family memories and craziness that goes with a big family!!! One day when you are old and gray and you have all your kids with their spouses, with their children, and then your children's children children encircled around you - you will look around and say, "Thank you God that you gave me all this!!"

Psalm 127:3-5
3 - Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 - As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 - Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Love you, Mammy

My favorite question is "are they natural?" or the time when a woman stopped me in the park and asked if they were real or and she did a hand gesture as if she were injecting a syringe. It is crazy! And I have to tell you the questions don't stop when they are out in the world, either.

I think Julie has the right vision. They are little for such a short period and your life will be blessed forever with much love, laughter and joy.

You are SOOO not taking all 5 to the grocery store! :) At least not anytime soon. Maybe when Russell is 15??

I like looking to the future like your friend Julie... envisioning all your loved ones circled round in the years to come. But she just didn't know to include me in that mental imagery. Because I'm so there! And all my family, too! :)

I love you, and I'm so glad our girlies made their plans for a slumber party next time. Sounds fun!

Ha! I love it! God SO knew what He was doing. And He will give you the strength to care for 5. He is so good to us isn't he? Hang in there girl! And I am refering to all the questions, not the pregnancy. That seems like the worst part!
